Your piano teacher
Level Up Piano is owned and operated by Brisbane based pianist Ben van Jole. Ben began learning piano at the age of 4, sparking a lifelong obsession with music. Ben built a foundation by completing AMEB exams at a young age and joined ensemble groups in high school.

He went on to complete a Bachelor of Jazz Performance and continues to support young, aspiring musicians in a variety of schools and universities around Brisbane.
​
He is an active member in the live music scene in Brisbane, regularly playing at a number of small and large venues. Ben is a diverse and flexible musician trained to perform in a variety of musical settings including jazz and blues, classical, pop, rock, originals and big bands.

Education and Qualifications
Ben holds a Bachelor of Jazz Performance, a current blue card and has been teaching professionally for over a decade. He has worked in schools providing students with tuition, as well as accompanying choirs and conducting ensembles. Ben has taught students undertaking Bachelor level jazz studies at Queensland Conservatorium and Jazz Music Institute.

He routinely attends personal development workshops such as the annual Essentially Ellington, Voices of Birralee, AMEB special events and APRA/AMCOS discussions.

Philosophy
Whether you're a beginner with big dreams or an experienced player searching for growth, Ben utilises a variety of teaching methods and resources to help students achieve their goals.
Everyone is at different stages in their musical development and have different aspirations for learning music. Therefore, sessions are tailored to the abilities and interests of each student. Some examples of previous students goals are:

- To play jazz and learn to improvise
- Preparation and completion of a music exam or audition
- Self accompaniment for singer/songwriter
- Learning classical pieces and improving sight-reading
